This personal financial class is an approved pre-discharge course for bankruptcy filers

What is covered?

This 2-hour course provides face-to-face interaction and instruction focused on enhancing skills in personal finance. New Start covers the financial topics required by the Bankruptcy Abuse and Prevention Act of 2005.

Developing a spending plan

Using credit wisely

Managing money

Sources for financial information.

January 11, March 8, May 10, July 12, September 13, & November 8, 2010

All the above classes will be held at the OSU Extension Basement Meeting Room

What should I do?

Submit paid registration at least one week prior to the class. The cost is $40 per person; $60 for a couple filing jointly. Fees may be reduced/waived for inability to pay (with documentation). To the class, bring personal identification and your bankruptcy case number. Arrive at least ten minutes before the class starts. Class begins at 10:00 a.m. and concludes at Noon.

How will the court know I attended?

After you complete the 2-hour class, you will receive a certificate of completion. You must provide this documentation to the court. You MUST arrive on time to receive your certificate.

 

Who are the instructors?

New Start instructors are Ohio State University Extension Family and Consumer Sciences professionals who have an average of 15 years experience teaching personal finances. Family and Consumer Sciences professionals offer many life skills programs focused on enhancing your finances, relationships, and health.

OSU Extension, Family & Consumer Sciences is approved to issue certificates evidencing completion of a personal financial management instructional course in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code. Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of a provider’s services. OSU Extension does not pay or receive fees or other consideration for the referral of students for the New Start for Financial Success course.
